Fun Woodworking Ideas for the Beginner

Carving Ideas
Woodcarving isn’t just about carving out figurines. Elegant and intricate designs can be carved on many other objects. Once you learn how to carve basic motifs and other patterns, you may apply this to your other projects such as furniture and jewelry boxes for that extra touch.
For inspiration, look around you. Take photographs of leaves, animals and even the patterns on other furniture and interiors of buildings. Once you have your photographs, keep them as clip files. Arrange them by subject matter for future reference. Photographic references are perfect if you’re planning on carving out realistic objects and animals.
You should also keep a sketchbook for all your woodworking ideas. This is so you can sketch out any idea that comes to mind. You can roughly sketch out random details and put them together in a more cohesive manner later on for your project.
If you want more technical information get a book on carving designs. Books provide you with a platform for practice on basic and traditional designs including Celtic, American Indian and Art Deco. You may also find free designs on the Internet.
Wood Finish Ideas
How about making your furniture look antique? You can make any piece of woodwork look exquisite with an antique finish. Try out this type of finish on any inexpensive, plain furniture and your guests will never know!
First, apply stain on the wood. Choose a color that looks more antique, like earthy colors. Secondly, use fine sandpaper over the stain to imitate the wear and tear of antique surfaces. You can refer to an antique piece to see where the tears are located.
You may also add a few scratches and dents with a file or chisel. But be careful and make sure they’re evenly spread out. Making a scratch or dent that’s huge isn’t going to make a piece look antique, but damaged!
Inlay Ideas
Make pictures out of wood by using wood inlay. Let’s try intarsia, a type of inlay. Intarsia basically involves putting together pieces of wood of varying shapes, color and grain to create a picture. Intarsia makes any flat surface look 3 dimensional.
To get started, get a picture for reference. There are hundreds of free intarsia templates online! Intarsia is like putting together puzzle pieces, so templates may be needed for more accuracy.
There are many free instructions online for both beginners and experts. Basically, you can stick your paper template on wood and cut out the lines. The surface should be depressed with about the same height of your pieces before inserting the pieces themselves.
Use color and grain on different parts of your subject matter to make your work stand out. Experiment with depth by using pieces with varying thickness. Use intarsia on cabinet doors, picture frames and boxes. There’s lots of room for creativity.
Painting Ideas
You can add your personal touch to any furniture you make. Why not paint on some of your own patterns? You can paint on traditional floral or geometric designs. You don’t have to be an expert at painting. You can always use stencils, which you can buy at any crafts shop.
There are many more woodworking ideas out there. Simply go online for a quick search. Improving your skills means trying out different kinds of techniques.

Mash Rc Helicopter
Posted by admin on Nov 15 2008 | Comments Off
Extremely careful. I put the blade holders on upside down, but it seems to fly ok with them that way. When I get some extra money I’ll buy new wood blades. Just follow the entire manual to the ‘t’ Don’t get all excited when the heli is all put together, you still have many hours of configuring / balancing / and adjusting everything. The electric RC Helicopter is also much cheaper than the next type of RC Helicopter: the gas RC Helicopter.
There are many unexpected things you will encounter if you do not have a simulator that are not listed here. I can not stress the usefulness of a simulator enough. Practice turning the RC Helicopter towards you a little more. Practice doing small very slow circles. This is difficult. Flying left to right is easier than flying in and out. Start doing this. Wind conditions; the bigger the helicopter the more wind it can cope with. RC Helicopter kits even comes with its own set of training gear. We learnt to fly our remote control helicopter the hard way and now offer you tips on how to fly successfully. If you know something that is not on our helpfull list then please add it here at our Remote Control Helicopter Tips or just check out what help the RC Helicopter community has to offer for all you newbies out there. See sellers of mini micro firefly rc helicopter.
RC Helicopters range in size from .06 cu inches to .91 cubic inches. The most common of these are glow fuel .30 and .60 two stroke engines. Practice in a little more wind… wind really makes a 30 size jump around be on top of it! Practice controlled flight. Try to make the RC Helicopter go exactly where you want it to. and a collective pitch (CP) helicopter can handle windier conditions as well (more power stiffer rotor head).
Can you set it up yourself. http://www.rchelicopterexpert.info/acrobatic-rc-helicopter/anodized-skids-rc-helicopters.php If you are looking for a radio-controlled helicopter the most difficult question to answer is: “what should I buy?” Bear in mind that if you skip to answer this question then you might be ending up with a one time flying experience.
For those who have heard this for the first time you should realize that you only require standard parts from an auto parts and hardware store to create a helicopter (that can really fly).RC Helicopter models are also available in woodcarvings carefully handcrafted to come out as a perfect replica of the original helicopter. The O.S. .32 SXH runs at a peak power RPM of around 18000 RPM with 1.2 horsepower while the 60 size engines can make 2 to 3 h.p!. if you are careful. Extremely careful. I put the blade holders on upside down but it seems to fly ok with them that way. When I get some extra money I’ll buy new wood blades. You might question the danger it can present to the RC Helicopter pilot. The reality is homebuilt helicopter are as stable as any other types of helicopters provided it flies on a good weather condition.
If your helicopter banks yaws or pitches by itself you need to compensate with trim. Practice hovering from 6 inches to 1 foot. Be prepared for gusts: wind will increase the effectiveness of your rotor blades and make your helicopter climb fast. Also see airhog rc helicopter. If you prefer real flying model RC Helicopter you still have several options. You can either go for gas rc helicopter or electric rc helicopter. RC Helicopter simulators fun too. I like to push it to the limits and do all sorts of weird things I would never do for real.

Important Chainsaw Safety
Posted by admin on Nov 15 2008 | Comments Off
You are doing great by reading this article, but it surely isn’t going to teach you everything you need to know. So, read this article and then go and read some more!
A great place to start on your quest of chainsaw knowledge is with an expert. Find a retail establishment that is experienced with chainsaw sales and pick their brains.
They should be able to provide you with a lot of information, including proper handling, cleaning, and sharpening of the chainsaw. They are also going to be there to help you choose which chainsaw is right for you and your specific needs.
Since there are several different sizes of chainsaws, it is imperative that you get one that is right for you.
Once you leave the store with your new chainsaw safely tucked in the trunk of your car, head home and read up on the manual.
This is the best place to find information on chainsaw safety as it is specific to your product.
The safest use of a chainsaw is when it is completely sharpened. A dull saw is more dangerous to you than a sharp one.
Whenever you are sharpening your saw, you should be wearing very thick gloves. To make this even safer, take it to a professional!
Then you can be assured that your blade is as sharp as possible and you won’t be risking any of your fingers in the process.
Ultimately, the most important safety is awareness. You need to be aware of your chainsaw and your surroundings. You need to be in the right mental state as well.
Make sure you are rested and not impaired by any alcohol or medications. You will be safest running your chainsaw when you are in the right state of mind.
Chainsaw safety is extremely important for you and anyone within your vicinity!
Take your time to learn as much as you can about this machine in your hands. Utilize the expert at the store where you purchase your chainsaw and read the manual thoroughly.
Take precautions to ensure that your chainsaw is always sharp and running properly.
If you are unsure of this, then take it to a professional for sharpening and maintenance. Finally, always be aware of your surroundings, your physical strength, and your mental state.
Follow these guidelines and you are certainly more likely to hold on to all of your limbs!

Review - Chigger Treatment - Review
Posted by admin on Nov 14 2008 | Comments Off
I don’t know about your, but I suffer terribly from chigger bites so I am always on the look out for chigger treatment that really does work. I have heard some of the most outrageous concoctions and home brew remedies imaginable as cures for chigger bites.
I was beginning to wonder if something actually does exist that can stop itching chigger bites.
And so the story begins.
I live in Chiggerland. I itched and scratched and bled, a lot. I use to fear going anywhere except on concrete or asphalt. My outdoor activities consisted of cutting wood; in the winter.
In the summer, I was usually looking at amputation as an affective chigger treatment. Who would have ever thought something so small as a lowly chigger could cause a man to fear them almost as much as charging elephant.
But, that was then and this is now. I no longer fear Mr. Chigger. I do respect him though. I found a chigger treatment that works wonders for me. I also tell others about it and they love it. Folks are continually thanking me for turning them onto this chigger remedy. It is not a chigger cure but it is close.
Have you ever had the “ITCH”? If you have, you know what I am talking about.
If you are like I am, when you get chigger bit, something has your attention for at least 14 days. Not too much sleep either. Although when sleep does come it is blessed relief for a few short hours.
The Discovery
I was itching so much I went looking for my chainsaw to remove my legs to get rid of the “ITCH”. By 3 A.M. I could not find the chainsaw. So I settled for a more sane solution. I did what any sane person of moderate intelligence would do. I searched the Internet. 2 hours later, I discovered www.Chigger-Treatment.com.
It sold me. I got the chigger treatment report within minutes. Within a couple minutes reading I was thinking I had just been ripped off.(What really frosted me was a friend told me about this very thing the year before. Like a dope I forgot about it and never gave it a thought or a test.)
However, they offer a money back guarantee if not happy, so I figured what the heck. I was desperate so I would go ahead and give it a go. I did not have anything to lose, except my legs. And this time I had an investment in it.
I took my doubts and my report (I printed it out so I would make no mistakes) and headed for the kitchen. The kitchen is not territory but it did not take long to locate the key ingredients. I was totally amazed and excited we had everything. I was not a little bit so sure about the results.
I was not holding my breath for anything too spectacular. I had heard lots of promises before. They all turned out to be empty promises.
This chigger treatment was much too simple to work like promised. (If there is a skeptic it is I.) No wonder I forgot about it earlier. It was one of the few things I have heard about but never tried.
Well, I never tried bathing in bleach or kerosene either. Someone did suggest using ice picks and gasoline. I opted for the gasoline but not the ice picks.
Believe it not, in just a few minutes of applying this chigger treatment I realized I found a chigger treatment which actually works..
After all the stuff I have bought and tried over the counter and otherwise I found the chigger treatment which lives up to its claims. And I found it right in my very own kitchen. Finally, at 5 A.M. I stopped itching.
I discovered a lot of things from the Secret Chigger Treatment Formula besides the chigger treatment formula.
This chigger treatment does more than cancel out that horrible chigger itch.
I discovered:
Where the chigger lives and about the chiggers life cycle.
How to prepare my yard to keep chiggers and ticks a comfortable distance away.
How to protect my yard and my home.
How to treat my clothes and houseplants.
What chiggers like to eat besides me so I can avoid those likely hideouts.
How to protect myself when I am out in the outback and when I get home.
What chiggers look like – really small little critters and ugly
I do not have to bleed all over the bed
and I can get a great nights sleep
Most important of all I discovered how to stop itching.
This chigger treatment stops the “ITCH” almost immediately.
Do not get me wrong. I still get chigger bit and I still get that nasty itch, but not for long, thanks to the Chigger Treatment Formula.
As if this is not enough I also like the fact this chigger treatment is completely natural and most of the ingredients can be found right in my very own home. This good news.
Now I go where I like and do what I like and let those chiggers take their best shot because when I get home it is my turn. I may be a quick meal for a few of those varmints, but I can assure you now I have the teeth to bite back.
I don’t know about you, but if you suffer like I did, (I stress “DID”) you have tried everything you can think of to stop the “ITCH”. I am not proud of it. I tried things that are not safe, even toxic. I was desperate for relief. I do not recommend anybody use unsafe anything as a chigger treatment.
I do not want this review to sound like a sales pitch because it is not. However, this chigger treatment is something I can easily recommend to anyone suffering from itching and needs a chigger treatment.
Chiggers may be nature’s joke, but I am having the last laugh with my very own chigger treatment.
I am not an affiliate of this product or site. I do recommend looking into this chigger treatment report if you suffer from chigger bites.

The HELICOPTER STATS give you a brief guide to price. If the RC Helicopter has NOT got RTF beside it you will have extra costs to get it flight ready and will have to do some building.
How important is it to find an expert to set up the pitch and balance? Make sure to buy a balancer and a pitch gauge you want errors to be less than 1 degree and the balance of the blades to be perfectly level / even. http://www.rchelicoptersguide.info/rc-helicopter-parts/air-hogs-rc-helicopter-parts.php This is a great starting point to those who would like to take RC Helicopter flying a hobby. Electric radio-controlled helicopter is also quiet. So if you are considerate enough to give your neighbors some peace.

When you get good at flying your RC reverse the direction of the rudder. When you are good at this land while slowly pirouetting. Also see mini helicopter 607 parts. You can also start with a scale-model plastic helicopter. There are model RC Helicopter that are made from wood. others say there not needed.

Removing Old Trees
Posted by admin on Nov 07 2008 | Comments Off
Once you have made the choice to remove the tree, you need to plan its removal. I can’t begin to count how many windows I’ve seen knocked out or cars I’ve seen crushed because of poor planning in the tree removal process. Decide what direction you want it to fall, and accurately measure to make sure it will fall completely clear of anything else that it could possibly cause damage to.
Once you have the falling direction planned out, you should climb up the tree and tie two long ropes near the top. Anchor them on the opposite side of the one that you want it to fall towards. This will allow you to adjust the direction the tree is being lowered in, just in case it starts leaning towards anything it could destroy.
Now that you’ve taken all the necessary precautions, you are ready to begin chopping. If you plan on using a manually operated saw or axe, please step back and consider how insane that is. Chopping down a tree by hand will take you forever, and will not even begin to be as accurate as using a chainsaw. If you don’t have a chainsaw, you shouldn’t even consider doing it without one. Ask around with your neighbors and see if anyone has one that you could borrow. If that doesn’t work, rent or buy one from your local home improvement store.
Before you start chopping away at the tree, you should wear proper eye and face protection in case any wood chips fly towards your eyes. I had a friend who blinded his right eye while cutting down a tree, so I hope all of my readers do not make the same mistake as he did. Whenever you operate a power tool, always be sure to wear proper protection for any exposed parts of your body.
When making the cut, you do not want to just cut a straight line into the tree. It is best to cut a sideways “V” into the tree. This is because if you cut the straight line, the tree will end up rolling to one side or the other. If you cut in a “V”, the tree will be able to fall in the exact direction that you want it to fall. Occasionally it might be a few feet off due to human error during the cutting process, but if you have some strong friends pull on the ropes you tied, you can line it back up with the path you wanted it to take. The entire process shouldn’t take more than an hour.
Removal of the stump can be slightly more difficult. You have several choices; you can rent out a stump chipper that will completely destroy the visible section of the stump. Or you can spend countless hours digging it out. Digging out the stump is much more thorough, but takes forever. If you have kids this shouldn’t be a problem. Kids often find the thought of digging fun, and are excited to go outside and dig all day long with their friends. This was the method I used, and I had the entire stump out within a week. Keep in mind that my stump was about 1 foot in diameter, and digging probably won’t work for stumps much larger than that.

Religion, Tradition & Culture Blend to Give Rise to a Monastery
Posted by admin on Nov 03 2008 | Comments Off
Since the style adopted was that of primeval architecture, every constituent of the temple is completely proportioned, with main halls on a north-south axis and wing halls on both sides. It contains a courtyard in the south and 5 main halls in different courtyards in the north: the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, the Hall of Harmony and Peace, the Hall of Eternal Blessings, the Hall of the Dharma Wheel and the Pavilion of Endless Happiness. Moreover, this grand temple blends several architectural styles of the Han, the Manchu, the Mongolian and the Tibetan.
In the south patio, a big wall screen and three tall Pailous acclaim the entrance to the building. The Zhaotai Gate is the entrance to the north yard. A drum tower in the west and a bell tower stand somberly as though welcoming visitors. The Hall of the Heavenly Kings is in fact no more than an access to the other four main halls. The courtyard outside the Hall of the Heavenly Kings is centered on the Hall of Harmony and Peace and has 4 wing halls. The Hall of Harmony and Peace is positioned with statues of three Buddhas: Sakyamuni, Kasyapa Matanga and Maitreya Buddha.
The Hall of Everlasting Blessings in the neighboring courtyard was the mansion of Emperor Yongzhen when he was a prince. In the Hall of the Dharma Wheel ceremonies are held and sutras are read. The hall holds a statue of Tsong Khapa who was the father of the Yellow Hat Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Behind the statue, there is a beautiful woodcarving in the form of a hill, holding 449 statues of Arhats. The Pavilion of Infinite Happiness which is the last hall is the main hall of this temple. It is a three-story building, attached to 2 smaller pavilions. In the main hall, a vast statue of Maitreya is located and this was gifted by the 7th Dalai to the Emperor Qianlong who was the son of Emperor Yongzheng.

The Indian Handicrafts Signing of Wood
Posted by admin on Nov 02 2008 | Comments Off
the art of wood carving in Indian has been so famous for generations. Indian is
proud to be a country having one of the world’s longer histories of sculpture,
dating back almost 10,000 years. This is the age of the first carvings of human
faces and animals found in a Dong Noi cave in Hoa Binh Province. During the Dong
Son cultural period, the ancients created houses with boat-shaped curved roofs
and were further embellished by art carvings of the likes of birds, animals and,
unique vignettes.
According to a legend, the
woodcarving patriarch is Mr. Sahni, a famous carpenter in India who built a
splendid temple for the Taj Mountain. Through the ups and downs of dynasties,
generations of carpenters continued to create more and more artistic products
with every passing day.
During years under
domination of Northern feudalism, carpentry in general and wood handicrafts I
particular made great progress through accumulation of experience and
development of traditional experience together with adopting the best of
quintessence of Chinese woodcarving. From the 11 – 12th century,
churches, pagodas, and temples sprung up as religious beliefs sharply developed.
Nowadays, most of the ancient wooden decorations no longer exist because of war,
fire, termites, and harsh weather. For example, beautiful dragon symbols, unique
images distinguishable from others, representing the Ly dynasty only survive
through works made of marble or terracotta.
Following the tradition of
the Ly dynasty, there were additional special woodworks during the Tran dynasty
of 1225 – 1400. Examples were dragons flanking flowers, musicians riding on
birds, fairies riding on phoenixes, and perhaps most notably of all the
decorations of the wood doors of Pho Minh pagoda in Nam Dinh Province which is
the oldest woodwork are realistic, of a free style and mostly concentrated in
general rather than in detail. This was also a flourishing time for wood
artisans to show off their talents through communal house decorations in their
village. Thanks to the skillful hands, splendid places having red lacquer
trimming with gold step-by-step sprung up. Further, wooden furniture started
making their appearance. However, the peak time of woodcarving was from the
16-17th century. Statues of Buddha in famous pagodas such as Tay
Phuong, But Tap and Mia earned acclaim as the most beautiful. The artwork,
“Bodhisattva with a Thousand Eyes and Thousand Arms,” which is 3.7 meters in
height and having 958 arms in the incomparable work of skilled hands and
represents the wide knowledge of artisans. Besides building the palaces,
woodcarving artisans proved their outstanding abilities though popular
architecture such as village communal houses, temples, and pagodas, sanctuaries
where existed thousands of art pieces such as carvings, intaglio, alto-relieves,
inlaid carving, red lacquer works trimmed with gold, and red lacquer works
trimmed with silver. All social classes were attracted by wooden handicrafts as
most of the subjects were based on palace models with classic references and had
practical utilities for daily life.
Many wood handicraft
villages are found throughout the country. Their products are varied, from
architecture (palaces, communal houses in the village,…); furniture (beds,
cupboards, tables, chairs, supports for flower pots,…); worship objects (lamp
stands, incense burners, horizontal lacquered boards, pairs of wood panels on
which are inscribed parallel sentences,…); wooden statues (Buddha, saints, and
famous people) to toys such as dolls, chessboards, animals, birds,…
In the modern era the
social aspect of Indian has fundamentally changed politically, economically, and
culturally. There was some conservation of cultural characteristics but with
some adjustments, some from interfacing with regional countries. Udder the
economic development and market expansion of the end of the 20th
century and the beginning of the 21st century,
Indian handicrafts production
in general and woodcraft in particular were and are strongly encouraged. This
encouragement bodes well and is a good signal for the development of wooden
handicraft throughout the whole country.
